FAQs
MATCH TICKET-ONLY BOOKING FAQs
Welcome to the Marathon Travel Match Ticket-Only Booking FAQs. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about ticket delivery, seating arrangements, match postponements, cancellations, refunds and group bookings.
These FAQs apply to bookings for match tickets only and do not include flights, accommodation or other travel arrangements.
If you have any further questions, please contact our team at sports@marathonsportstravel.ie.
1. TICKET DELIVERY
How and when will I receive my tickets?
All tickets are issued electronically (e-tickets) and will be sent to the email address provided when making your booking.
For most football matches, tickets are generally delivered between two and four days before the match. For matches in Spain, Italy and Germany, tickets may be delivered as late as 24 hours before kick-off.
Please ensure that you have access to the email address associated with your booking and check your inbox and junk or spam folders regularly in the days leading up to the match.
What should I do if I haven't received my tickets?
Before contacting us, please ensure that you have completed and updated all required attendee details associated with your booking. These details must be submitted at least 21 days before kick-off.
If you have completed this step and your tickets have not arrived within the expected delivery timeframe, please check your junk or spam folders.
If you still cannot locate your tickets, please contact sports@marathonsportstravel.ie, and the Marathon Travel team will assist you.
2. SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
Where will my seats be located in the stadium?
Marathon Travel match tickets are allocated within the home supporters’ section or designated neutral areas of the stadium, depending on the fixture and ticket category purchased.
Customers must comply with the stadium’s rules and regulations. Wearing the visiting team’s colours or openly supporting the away team is prohibited in home supporters’ areas and could result in refusal of entry or removal from the stadium without compensation.
When booking online, you can select from the available ticket categories. Some categories may specify particular seating blocks, while others may cover a wider seating area.
Exact row and seat numbers are generally confirmed when tickets are issued.
Consequently, Marathon Travel cannot guarantee specific seat numbers or rows at the time of booking unless explicitly stated.
Will our seats be together?
Marathon Travel will always aim to accommodate seating requests and allocate seats together wherever possible. However, seating arrangements vary depending on the country, club, stadium and ticket category.
- UK football: Seats are guaranteed to be allocated together for bookings covered by our UK seating guarantee.
- Spanish football: We will make every effort to seat your group together or as close together as possible. Please note that some Spanish clubs consider seats directly in front of or behind one another, diagonally positioned, separated by a step, or with a seat number in between to be seated together.
- Other European football: Seats will generally be allocated together, although in rare circumstances, arrangements similar to those described above for Spanish football may apply.
If sitting together is essential to your booking, please contact Marathon Travel before purchasing your tickets to discuss the available options.
Can I change my seat after booking?
Once a booking has been confirmed, changes to the ticket allocation cannot be accommodated.
Tickets are supplied in the category purchased, and customers are entitled to the seating category or ticket value specified in their booking confirmation, subject to the applicable ticket conditions.
Where seat numbers are specified, the stadium, venue or event organiser may reserve the right to reallocate seats when necessary.
If you have a specific seating concern, please contact sports@marathonsportstravel.ie before your booking is finalised, where possible.
Are children's tickets available?
Marathon Travel does not offer separate child-priced football tickets.
All customers should check the relevant stadium’s age restrictions and entry requirements before making a booking. Children will require their own valid match ticket, regardless of age.
Please contact sports@marathonsportstravel.ie if you have questions about attending a particular fixture with children.
3. MATCH DATE CHANGES, POSTPONEMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS
What happens if a match date or kick-off time changes?
Football fixtures and kick-off times are subject to change, sometimes at short notice.
Changes may occur because of television scheduling, domestic cup competitions, European competition commitments or other circumstances determined by the relevant football authorities.
When you purchase a ticket through Marathon Travel, your booking is for the specified fixture rather than a guaranteed date or kick-off time.
A change to the scheduled date or time does not entitle you to a refund, as the ticket remains valid for the rescheduled fixture.
Marathon Travel will endeavour to communicate significant fixture changes when information becomes available to us. However, we cannot guarantee that we will notify every customer individually of every change.
Customers are responsible for monitoring official club, league and stadium announcements and checking the confirmed fixture details before travelling.
We strongly recommend allowing flexibility in your travel arrangements, particularly where match dates have not yet been confirmed.
What happens if a club or venue cannot supply my tickets due to exceptional circumstances?
In the unlikely event that a club, stadium or ticket supplier cannot fulfil a confirmed ticket order because of exceptional circumstances beyond their control, Marathon Travel will work with the relevant parties to determine the appropriate resolution.
Where a refund is due and authorised under the applicable booking terms, we will endeavour to process it as promptly as possible.
Marathon Travel, the ticket supplier, the club and the venue are not responsible for additional costs incurred by customers, such as flights, accommodation, transfers or other travel expenses, beyond the amount recoverable for the affected tickets.
Can I claim compensation for travel or accommodation if a match is rescheduled or cancelled?
No. Marathon Travel sells match tickets only under these bookings and does not accept responsibility for customers’ independently arranged travel or accommodation expenses.
If a match is rescheduled, your ticket booking remains subject to the applicable fixture and ticket conditions. A change to the match date or kick-off time does not entitle you to a ticket refund.
Where a match is cancelled or tickets cannot be supplied, any refund will be handled in accordance with the applicable booking terms and the relevant organiser’s or supplier’s arrangements.
Marathon Travel cannot reimburse additional expenses, including flights, hotels, transfers or other travel costs, arising from a change, postponement or cancellation.
We strongly recommend considering these risks before making non-refundable travel arrangements.
4. REFUNDS, CANCELLATIONS AND EXCHANGES
I can no longer attend the match. Can I cancel or exchange my ticket?
Once your booking has been confirmed, tickets cannot be cancelled, refunded or exchanged. All bookings are subject to the terms and conditions presented during the booking process.
However, we understand that circumstances can change. If you are unable to attend your match, please contact sports@marathonsportstravel.ie.
The Marathon Travel team will review your circumstances and advise whether any options may be available.
Please note that we cannot guarantee that a cancellation, refund, exchange or alternative arrangement will be possible.
Can I transfer my ticket to a friend or family member?
Depending on the club, event organiser and ticket type, it may be possible to transfer a ticket to another person.
However, some tickets are issued in the original purchaser’s name or are subject to specific restrictions on transfers and changes to attendee details.
5. DRESS CODE AND STADIUM RULES
Is there a dress code for football stadiums?
Yes. As Marathon Travel tickets are located in the home supporters’ section or designated neutral areas, customers must comply with the relevant stadium’s dress code and supporter policies. For tickets in home supporters’ areas, wearing the visiting team’s colours or displaying away-team merchandise may be prohibited. This can include:
- Away-team football shirts and jerseys.
- Scarves displaying the visiting team’s colours or crest.
- Hats, flags and other away-team merchandise.
- Other items or clothing that identify you as a visiting-team supporter.
Restrictions vary between clubs and stadiums. Customers should familiarise themselves with the relevant venue’s rules before attending. Failure to comply with stadium regulations may result in refusal of entry or removal from the stadium without compensation.
If you are unsure about the dress code for your fixture, please contact sports@marathonsportstravel.ie before match day.
6. GROUP BOOKINGS
Can I book match tickets for a group?
Yes! Marathon Travel can assist with group match ticket enquiries.
Online bookings are generally limited to a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction. This restriction helps prevent tickets from being purchased for unauthorised resale. If you require more than 10 tickets or are organising a group experience, please contact us directly at sports@marathonsportstravel.ie.
To help us assist you, please include the following information in your enquiry:
- Match: The fixture you wish to attend.
- Date: The scheduled match date, if confirmed.
- Number of tickets: The total number required.
- Customer name: The name associated with the booking or enquiry.
- Contact details: Your email address and telephone number, if available.
- Seating preferences: Any specific requirements, including whether your group needs to sit together.
Our team will review your requirements and advise you on the available options.
Are special rates available for group bookings?
Group pricing may be available for certain fixtures, depending on ticket availability, the ticket category and the conditions set by the relevant organiser or supplier. The price for a group booking may differ from the price displayed online and could be either higher or lower.
Marathon Travel will confirm the applicable pricing and any relevant conditions before you commit to a group booking.
Please email sports@marathonsportstravel.ie with your requirements for further information.
7. PRICING AND PAYMENT
Do ticket prices include booking fees and payment processing fees?
The prices displayed during the Marathon Travel booking process include the applicable booking fees, payment processing fees and VAT, where applicable, as specified at checkout. The total amount payable will be displayed before you confirm your purchase.
Can ticket prices change?
Yes. Ticket prices may change. However, price changes will not affect bookings that have already been confirmed, subject to the applicable booking terms.
Why is the price printed on my ticket different from the price I paid?
The face value printed on a match ticket may differ from the price charged by Marathon Travel. A difference between the ticket’s printed face value and the amount paid does not, by itself, entitle the customer to a refund of the difference.
